DARINA GAPITCH is a striking beauty with an exceptional stage presence to match her wonderful, rich voice that makes an audience sit up and engage in the performance displayed on stage. She is one of those rare mezzo sopranos that offer a powerful vocal presence, yet with such beauty and control that she masters many roles, in the repertoire she is so suited to perform, a lesser artist might wish to avoid. Many experts are astounded that Darina has the vocal range to hit high notes many sopranos would envy, displaying amazing vocal agility.
Born in Kiev, Ukraine, Darina moved to Poland to study voice and acting at the Music Academy in Bydgoszcz, as well as Polish Philology at the University in Wrocław. It was clear at an early age, winning competitions with older artists, she was an exceptional student, and quick study, so much so that she was invited to performed as a soloist for Opera Nova in Bydgoszcz, Poland.
A versatile performer, Darina appeared as the lead role in Hansel and Gretel in 2008, and as Laura in La Giocanda in 2010, for the International Opera Festival in Bydgoszcz, Poland. Following those appearances, she performed as the 3rd Dame in Die Zauberflöte, the title role in Rinaldo, and as Jadwiga in Haunted Manor for Opera Nova in Bydgoszcz, Poland.
Additional performances included Count Orlovsky in Die Fledermaus, as Mercedes in “Carmen” for the Lublin Musical Theatre. Darina was then invited to work as a principal soloist with the Musical Theater in Gdynia, the Musical Theater in Lublin, and Opera Nova, all in Poland from 2009-2012. During this period Darina was contracted to perform as the Lady of the Lake in Monty Python’s Spamalot in Poland, immediately after the Broadway premier in the United States.
Additional roles include Fenena in Nabucco, Santuzza and Lola in, Sylva Varescu in Die Csárdásfürstin, and Maddalena in Rigoletto. In 2012 she performed as Jezibaba in Rusalka, in 2013 as Santuzza and Lola in Cavalleria Rusticana, as Zofia in Halka and as Eboli in Don Carlos. In 2015 Darina performed the role of Marguerite in La Damnation de Faust.
The critics have acclaimed Darina as a spectacular performer both vocally and artistically as an actress of immense character and stage presence. Having the ability to dance as well as sing makes her an exceptional “in demand” artist, suited to many roles and operas. She maintains a contract as a premier soloist with Opera Nova in Bydgoszcz, Poland where Darina currently resides.
